Now That You Have The Litter Box, What Type Of Litter Do You Buy?

Many people choose the style and type of litter box before they choose the type of litter that they need and prefer to use. This is not necessarily a good thing. With the many types and styles there are options of sever types of litter that may be used.

It is best to choose the litter that you will need before choosing the litter box. The reason for this is that all styles and types do not work the same with all types of litter. If you are the proud owner of only one cat, then you may choose from all the types of litter available. On the other hand, if you own more than one cat you would need a multi-cat form of litter this works well in the regular type of litter box but may not be self-clumping so would not work well in an automatic litter box.

If you suffer from allergies to dust, you may not desire to have a clay based litter as this tends to add dust particles to the air or you may not be able to have cedar chips due to an allergy to cedar. If you prefer natural wood chip litter you can find it in cedar or in pine.

For those who are handicapped or do not want to have to clean the litter box often, then you may be more interested in a deodorizing litter than in the plain clay litter. If you would like to clean the litter box less often, then consider using a self-clumping form of litter that will allow you to use a scoop and sift the remains from the litter with less waste of the litter. This type of litter is recommended for use in an automatic litter box as that is the purpose of sifting mechanism of the unit.
